49ers lose the Manning Sweepstakes

Well it turns out that Peyton Manning is headed to the Denver Broncos.  The 49ers were one of the top teams that were in the hunt to land him.  During the selection process, Alex Smith decided to test the Free Agent Market and he visited the Miami Dolphins.  Is this the end for Alex Smith in San Francisco?

Thinking about Peyton Manning coming to the 49ers was a bit of excitement, but you really still have to wonder if he will be as effective as in the past.  He is coming off of a serious neck injury.  The 49ers had to take a serious look at bringing Peyton Manning in.  If you get an opportunity to upgrade a position you have to do it.  Will Alex Smith sign with the 49ers again?  The truth is that the 49ers have invested a lot of money in Smith over the years and you have to wonder if they want to go down that road again.

The 49ers are making some good moves.  They picked up Randy Moss and Mario Manningham as wide receivers.   The niner offense should benefit from the pickup of both of these guys.

What happens if Alex Smith decides to head down to Miami?  The niners still have a few young qb's on the roster.  A strong defense and a solid running game could be the perfect match for a young quarterback.  If Alex moves on, the 49ers should still be able to win games.

Washington Redskins and RGIII?

Looks like RGIII is headed to the Washington Redskins.  The Rams must be okay with there current quarterback Sam Bradford.  He is already proven in the NFL and now they will be getting a bunch of draft picks that they can use to help improve the team in more areas.

I guess that this solves the quarterback problem in Washington.  RGIII has passing and running ability and it should be a problem for NFL Defenses.  Washington already has a good tight end and a wide receiver.  They could add a few more pieces and have a pretty good offense with RGIII running the show.

The draft is still a few weeks away, but things are starting to heat up. Players are starting to get cut and signed.  The combines are over and now some big shifts are starting to happen.

Do you think that Washington made the right move in going after RGIII?
